Most of the totems and paintings are on wood or metal. I favor industrial-type media, mixing abstract geometric shapes with textured drips, controlled in order to keep a structured and balanced surface. I emphasis texture turning the paintings into sculptural works.

Some of the bigger totems are double-sided, their mood and color loosely marked by current political and social events.

Mini Bio

I spent a few years studying at the design school 'Met de Penninghen et Jacques d'Andon' in Paris, and as an apprentice in the atelier of sculptor Louis Molinari next to Paris. I pursued research while studying Soviet cinema and art and spent some months on a scholarship in Russia.

I worked on a series of paper collages mostly based on a research in primary colours and volumes. I interrupted my graphic work for a few years during which I worked as a film editor and edited documentary and independently produced films.

My tendency to use primary colours and geometric shapes has probably been influenced by the Russian Suprematist movement and Der Blaue Reiter, with artists like Malevitch and Kandisky. The collage-composition in certain paintings owes also to the cinema--Russian-Soviet cinema and the Vertov, Eisenstein theories of montage. If I like the energy that works by Jasper Johns, Pollock, or Motherwell communicate, I also enjoy the structure of Diebenkorn's works and feel close to the vibrant and contemplative poetic of colours in Rothko's paintings.
